TREND DCT OR CVT TRANSMISSION

In the networking tool LinkedIn I asked in May for opinions, which will be the midterm trend in automatic passenger car transmissions to DCT (Double Clutch Transmissions) versus CVT (Continuous Variable Transmissions)? The answers revealed that two thirds see advantage for DCT against CVT by better agility. For CVT they see more an application in small cars and the americans see the DCT more in high performance cars and love the smothness of the CVT.

Both systems offer potentials for improvements, refinements ans fuel economy with reference to conventional torque converter geared automatic transmissions. The preference for one of both systems is dependant of the system the driver has practical experience.
