INDIA: BUSINESS PLAN AND START-UP ACCOUNTING

To enter the indian passenger car market in 1994 the joint venture "Mercedes-Benz India Ltd." was founded with TATA-TELCO group (then 49% share). A ckd-assembly (completely knocked down) for the E-class W124 was erected in Pune, federal state Maharashtra. TELCOs stamping and paint shop was modernised and local suppliers qualified. Parallel a sales subsidiary and a retail network had to be installed. MBIndia produces in the meantime in an own new plant.

KEY DATA:

  • first Mercedes-Benz passenger car plant in BRIC states
  • opening of the protected market by local manufacturing
  • joint Venture with € 86 mil. share capital
  • capacity 20.000 vehicles/year in two shift operation
  • development of local supply base and parts release process

PERSONAL PERFORMANCE:

  • creation of business plan with balance sheet, P&L account, finance plan, disccounted cash flow calculation through all project phases from 3/1994 to 3/1996
  • commercial responsibility for contracts, alignment of assumptions and plannings with joint venture partner TELCO
  • start-up and initial operation of commercial functions in Pune in the two months before start of production
  • pull forward of launch by one month to use tax benefits
