WORLDWIDE TRANSMISSION PORTFOLIO

All inhouse manufactured and purchased transmissions in the full target vehicle range from smart microcar to heavy duty trucks were analysed in the new-merged DaimlerChrysler AG by order from the board in 1999/2000. A long term strategy for product development and integrated manufacturing was defined and the transmission portfolio was fundamentally reorganised and modernised. Huge scale effects and cost savings were achieved since by halving types and variants, by stop of parallel manufacturing and development and by creation of a worldwide integrated manufacturing and technology compound of competence centers and global common sourcing.

KEY DATA:

  • 4,2 mil. transmissions/year at 8 sites with workforce 18.000
  • € 4,6 billion internal turnover plus € 0,8 billion purchase of transmissions
  • classification of more than 100 transmissions by key data, input torque, weight, cost, technical data, target vehicles, technology...
  • restructuring of transmission portfolio at DaimlerChrysler worldwide in a few years with sustainable positive effects

PERSONAL PERFORMANCE:

  • project execution as no. 2 in a five-head core team
  • elaboration of concepts and board decision papers
  • negotiation of alignments with business units Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, commercial vehicles and Chrysler just after the merger
  • german leadership of core realization project "INDUSTRIALIZATION OF AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AT CHRYSLER" in direct follow-up
